Philip Marsden is a competition lawyer with a particular interest in abuse of dominance, innovation incentives, consumer welfare, and international competition issues. He is Deputy Chairman of the Competition and Markets Authority, chairing panels on antitrust, mergers and market investigations. Philip is a Board member of the Channel Islands Competition and Regulatory Authorities, and a member of the Legal Services Consumer Panel. He is also Professor at the College of Europe, Bruges, teaching the core LL.M. competition course, and co-founder and General Editor of the European Competition Journal and of OUP’s Oxford Competition Law series. From 2003-2014 he was Senior Research Fellow at the British Institute for International and Comparative Law and Director of its Competition Law Forum. From 2008-2014 he was Non-executive Director on the Board of the UK Office of Fair Trading. A competition official early in his career, Philip has practiced competition law in Toronto, Tokyo and London, advising firms in the fast-moving consumer goods and high technology sectors.
